Legal Information

Important information about celebrant-led ceremonies and legal marriage requirements

Celebrant-Led Ceremonies

If you're having a celebrant-led ceremony, you can take care of the legal side with a small ceremony at your local Norfolk registry office to sign the paperwork. Your celebrant can then lead your full personalised ceremony at the venue of your choice.

This approach gives you the flexibility to have your ceremony anywhere you like – in a garden, woodland, hotel, historic venue, or any other special location – while ensuring the legal requirements are properly met.

Legal Marriage Requirements

Legal weddings must take place at a registered venue. This includes:

  • Civil registry office
  • Approved venue (licensed for civil ceremonies)
  • Church (if it's a Church of England wedding)

Celebrant-led ceremonies are non-legally binding ceremonies that allow you to have a completely personalised ceremony at any location you choose.

Finding Your Local Registry Office

Find your local registry office on your local council website — search for marriages and civil partnerships on the Norfolk County Council website.

I'm happy to help guide you through this process and answer any questions you might have about combining a legal ceremony with a celebrant-led ceremony.
